In the shadowed alleys of Taichung, something is waiting.
This is not a game...
Set in a stylized, 8-bit vision of modern-day Taiwan, this NES-inspired horror experience draws from local folklore, urban legends, and Taoist ritual. You explore dim apartments, cluttered backstreets, and forgotten corners of the city, where incense burns long after it should have gone out, and paper offerings don’t always stay burned.
A looping chant plays throughout your journey. You’re told it protects you. You’re told to keep listening.
But the longer you stay, the more the truth begins to unravel.
Every screen hides something.
Every object feels intentional.
And every step draws you closer to her.
A bride, bound to a ritual.
A voice beneath the static.
A story that was never meant to be finished.
Features:
- Authentic NES-style visuals using a stark red-and-black palette
- Exploration-based gameplay with interactive environments
- A narrative rooted in Taiwanese spiritual traditions and ghost lore
- Subtle psychological horror that builds the deeper you go
You can turn it off at any time, but once you understand what you’re hearing, it might already be too late.
***Horror, Taichung is still in development. It will be released at the end of May / early June. This is a pre-order for the game. A demo can be found on the Retro Verse. This game was developed for the ByteOff VI game jam.
