Temple Fortune

In Temple Fortune, you can experience a small but meaningful part of Taiwanese temple culture in 8-bit form.

Temple Fortune is a compact FC experience inspired by jiaobei divination, a living religious practice found throughout Taiwan. Visitors to a temple may respectfully present a question to a deity before casting two crescent-shaped wooden blocks. The way that the blocks land is then traditionally interpreted as an affirmative, negative, or uncertain response to the aforementioned question.

In Temple Fortune, players may approach one of the following three deities: Mazu, protector of sailors, Caishen, god of prosperity, and Yue Lao, god of love and marriage.

After choosing a deity and presenting a question, players cast a pair of digital jiaobei and receive one of the traditional types of responses. The experience is presented through original 8-bit artwork and music inspired by the distinctive atmosphere of Taiwan’s temples.

Temple Fortune was created with respect for the people and communities who continue to observe these traditions. It is intended as a cultural tribute and interactive introduction, not as a parody or replacement for genuine religious consultation.

DEVELOPER'S NOTE: This game contains dozens of respectful, temple-inspired messages. There was so much text that three banks were solely dedicated to game text!
