This is one of the earliest prototypes of my Mr Lee's Alishan Tea Collector game that exists. The game was originally developed for an indie game convention in early July 2023 - although a different game was scheduled to be showcased, there were plans to distribute demo cartridges of Mr Lee to guests. From the second picture you can see the graphic from the exhibition.
By the time the convention came around, 40 demo cartridges were ready to be passed out; however, the build seen here is much, much earlier.
You can see that although the framework is in place for many of the stages, many of the areas do not have any enemies. The score system is messed up, lots of items (tea, 1-ups, etc) are missing, and even some enemy placements are different in the stages with the enemies. Also, the stages are all very GREEN. You can also see on the brewing tea game, there's a cup graphic that was ditched for the final release, and the player is also present here...
While this is the Mr Lee cult classic that we love, at the same time it is really different, even compared to the demos that were passed out at the convention.
Taxi versus taxi refers to the fact that this game is based on a real trip taken with some good friends up the mountain in the search for tea. The driver was a guy named Mr Lee, who was the kindest driver ever. A few days later there was a trip somewhere else with a different guide, who was a nice guy but he was also very cold and standoffish. So the idea had come about that the two drivers were rivals, and in this prototype version of the game, the "bad" taxi driver is actually waiting at the top of the mountain as a bad guy. This was removed from the final version of the game, or even from the demos distributed at the convention.
This is a one-of-a-kind prototype game for Mr Lee's Alishan Tea Collector. It is tested and works fine.
